How Your Doctor Will Know If You've Got A Fungal Infection
If you have been to the doctor in the past to ask about the symptoms you are experiencing in conjunction with your nail fungal infection, you may have been surprised to find out that there is no magic test or diagnosis machine which can determine the type of infection you have.
Much like other testing for bacteria and viruses, a sample of the infected area needs to be taken and sent away to a laboratory for analysis.
Obviously, this can take a few days – and can leave you wondering whether or not you have a serious condition which needs urgent medical care.
However, you should not let this put you off going to the doctor. Their advice could be the difference between a long-term/chronic issue, and one which is solved by a simple prescription from the pharmacy.
Identification Techniques
There are two mainstream techniques which doctors and physicians use to identify nail fungal infections. They are:
- Scrape tests.
- Observation.
Before any real scientific work is done, the doctor will take a look at your infected nail, and will give an opinion as to whether or not further action needs to be taken. If it does, you will probably be given a prescription which you will need to take to your pharmacist.
Alternatively, they might tell you that your nail infection is not serious enough to warrant the tough and harsh treatments which are involved with synthetic materials and chemicals.
Instead, you would probably be better to go home, take a look on the Internet, and find a solution which is natural, which won’t cause any side effects, and which is able to speed the healing process so that your nail infection can heal itself faster than if it was just left alone.
A More Detailed Look
If the doctor is at all concerned about what’s happening on or under your nail, they will recommend that a scrape test be done. This is where a small sample is scraped from the infected area, and sent away to be examined in a laboratory.
From this, a more accurate picture is able to be painted of exactly what is wrong with your nails. They will be able to determine what course of treatment needs to be undertaken, and moreover, they will be able to determine the type of fungus which has infected the area.
